Ultrasound Coming to Your Cell Phone?
Researchers from Washington University right here in St. Louis have announced that they’ve developed software that runs on Windows Mobile smartphones that can perform an ultrasound via a USB probe attached to the phone. They also say that they are working to bring the cost of this ultraportable ultrasound down to less than $400. There are certainly many applications where this would be life saving in the hands of trained medical professionals. With the popularity of home dopplers to hear baby’s heartbeat, I can imagine that there will be some consumer demand for this type of product. Would you buy this if it were available on the consumer market?
